McDonel shines in her role as Janis Joplin at Le Petit Theatre

Leslie McDonel stars as the titular rock star in “A Night with Janis Joplin” at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carré.

Like Joplin, McDonel is originally from Texas and closely identifies with the many musical influences that shaped Joplin’s career.

To be sure, McDonel has the pipes, the exuberance, the winning smile and the charisma needed for this leading role. She makes the show an experience, not just a concert.
